Be sure to spend at least one day Jan. 21 or 22 at the Suncoast Arts Fest at the Shops of Wiregrass in Wesley Chapel. I've been going for the past few years, and it's my all-time favorite outdoor art event....

4.     Start making plans! The Suncoast Arts Fest is a week away. The ArtsFest’s main attraction is a juried art show and other events at The Shops at Wiregrass in Wesley Chapel, Jan. 21-22, but there will be events in New Port Richey as well. There’s still time to volunteer.

In 2010-2011, SAF gave out 11 arts teacher grants and sent 16 arts teachers to the Florida Art Education Association conference!

2011 SAF

In 2011, Eleven Arts Grants were awarded to teachers in Pasco County schools!

The members of the Fine Arts of the Suncoast want to thank all of you for applying for our first “Arts for Kids” Grants. Each year, the organization presents the Suncoast Arts Fest in January to raise funds for arts education in our community. In the past, these funds have been used in a variety of ways. However, last year, a survey of the arts teachers in Pasco was done and the overwhelming majority of the arts teachers suggested that the funds would be best used to provide grants directly to the classroom art teachers. This is the first round of grants to be awarded.

All the grant applications we received were worthy of an award. A total of about $5000 was available so not all the grants could be funded and the awards committee had a very difficult time choosing the following 11 award grants. The following applications were selected for funding –

Pasco Art Teachers displaying artwork from a workshop at St. Petersburg Clay Company. Thank you SAF for providing 16 scholarships for Pasco Art Teachers to attend the Florida Art Education Association Conference!

Thank you so much for the amazing opportunity to participate in the FAEA Conference this month! It was so informative and I had a wonderful time! I came back with so many new ideas and projects to incorporate into my art classes! I was able to spend time with other art teachers and share ideas with each of them as well. Again, my sincerest thanks for sponsoring me for this amazing event!

Sincerely,

Lesley Smith

Thank you so much for the scholarship to the FAEA conference. The conference was very educational and very helpful to my work as an online teacher. I was able to bring back useful information that has helpful not only to myself but to my coworkers in other content areas. I would not have been able to afford a membership with FAEA this year let alone attend the conference.  I am very grateful and appreciative of this opportunity you have afforded me.

Thank you,

Dr. Richard Fisher

Thank you for the scholarship funds that helped the Pasco County Art teachers go to the FAEA conference, I personally enjoyed every workshop I participated in. I also think Stefanie did a great job relaying the info and for all who participate!

Thank you  so much for your sponsorship Suncoast Arts Fest! The conference was a wonderful way to recharge my creative talents and learn from other great teachers. I got some really great lessons and can't wait to use them in my classroom. I wouldn't have been able to go with out your scholarship, so I am so grateful for the opportunity. Thanks for all you do to help Pasco County support the arts!

I was very excited to be able to go the Art Conference this year. I have been unable to go the last several years due to the cost. Thank you so much for the scholarship to the FAEA conference. There were many great workshops I was able to attend.  They were both inspirational and helpful. I have many new ideas and suggestions on former ideas. I cannot wait to implement some of these ideas into my classroom.
Thanks again for this wonderful opportunity.

Dear Suncoast Arts Fest Board,

I have been an art teacher in Pasco County for twenty three years. Although I have always been interested in attending the Florida Art Education Association Conference, I have never attended because of the cost, and the time away from my classroom. This year, because of your generosity through a scholarship award I was able to attend the conference.

It was such a valuable experience for me, as I was able to incorporate into my lessons for the students, several projects from the classes I attended. I appreciate your contribution to my class’s success. It was also great to be able to spend time with other art teachers who have the same interests in the arts and appreciate the impact it has on our lives.

Thank you for seeing the value in providing opportunities for art teachers to learn new techniques, and be able to expand their repertoire to become better teachers for our students.

Respectfully,

Janet Mallet

  • developing an arts grant program for teachers that will provide needed funds for creative endeavors supporting the progress and benefits of the arts to our youth. These grants will be available in the fall. Stay tuned as we make these Art Grants available!
  • a youth arts based calendar at www.ArtsGoForward.com, currently being developed and will link to the SAF website under Links. This site will promote youth art programs and resources locally, and will eventually provide direction and resources for further education in the arts. • Our continued relationships with TBBCA.org, colleges and other supporters that see the value of the arts in business and supporting our youth.

2009 SAF

The 2009 SAF funds were being used to promote elementary art where there have been cuts due to lack of funding in Pasco County.

2008 SAF

The 2008 SAF raised funds that were used to send fifty 11th - 12th graders to the Ringling College of Art and Design for "Portfolio Day", where 53 national arts colleges review works of aspiring art students in a variety of creative fields.

2007 SAF

The 2007 show raised enough funds for five "Art to Go" teaching trunks full of visual and perforing arts resources. These trunks can be used by all Pasco county schools and trunk themes are:

  • Modern Art: including books, videos, posters, sculptures and mobiles.
  • Printmaking: including books, videos, lesson plans, Gyotaku fish print models, brayers and ink trays.
  • Theater: Viola Spolin - Theater Game File, on stage theater games, activities for kids, props (all from Spolin Collection).
  • Egypt: Artifacts
  • Native American Art

2005 SAF

In 2005, fine artist Christopher Still along with our organization made a presentation of ten of his murals depicting Florida history.  These framed prints along with interactive audio CD’s and teacher lessons were placed in a “traveling tub” that can be used by all Pasco County Schools both public and  private, K-12.  The original murals currently hang in the House of Representatives located in Tallahassee, Florida.  Pasco County school board members, art teachers, students and the public were invited to Longleaf Elementary School for this presentation.
