Suncoast Arts Fest gears up
WESLEY CHAPEL - Organizers had cool weather in mind when they scheduled this
year's Suncoast Arts Fest for Jan. 23 and 24 at The Shops at Wiregrass.
The juried fine arts show will have booths lining the streets as artists and
crafters show and sell their work, show director Pam Marron said.
About 70,000 people attended the Suncoast Arts Fest in May, which featured the
work of about 80 artists.
More than $4,000 in prize money will be awarded to artists in the January show,
which will feature ceramics, clay, drawings, graphics, printmaking, fiber and
leather, mixed media, two- and three-dimensional painting, photography, glass,
jewelry, metal, sculpture and wood.
"We'll have youth arts, which we'll be expanding this year, performing arts, and
we'll be inviting chalk artists for the first time this year," Marron said.
Seven locations will host arts-related events. The host sites will include
Pasco-Hernando Community College, Pasco Arts Council, West Pasco Arts Guild,
Progress Energy Arts Gallery and Pioneer Florida Museum & Village. Also
participating will be the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art in Tarpon Springs.
All art and fine craft entries must be original and appropriate for viewers of
all ages. Applications must be postmarked by Dec. 15. The show has no jury fee.
The artist acceptance fee is $155. Visit www.suncoastartsfest.com for a list of
rules, guidelines and an application.
Arts Fest benefits Art for Kids in Pasco County, a nonprofit agency.
The Tampa Tribune, TBO.com and Suncoast News are media sponsors.
