RULES FOR CHALK ARTISTS

Deadline for chalk artist applications – January 15, 2012

The 2012 Suncoast Arts Fest (SAF) is free and open to the general public on Sat. January 21st from 10am-6pm and Sunday January 22nd from 11 am-5pm. The event is held at the Shops at Wiregrass in Wesley Chapel, FL close to the Rt. 56 exit off of I-75. Last year there were over 101,000 attendees for the weekend.

This event is a family oriented cultural event and as such, the SAF reserves the right to deem any submission as inappropriate and request the artist submit another artwork for inclusion in the event.

PASTEL CHALK is the medium. The use of any other materials is forbidden with the exception of diluted tempera paint, in primary colors, to be used only as a thin wash of undercoat to your street painting.

All chalk artist applicants MUST include an image of the specific work they plan to execute for the Suncoast Arts Fest (SAF) in their application package. This may be a printed photograph, a file on a CD or a sketch. It cannot be a slide. The image will not be returned.

The image executed at the event must be essentially the same as the submitted image.

An application fee of $20 per artist should be included with the application package.

The executed image may be either 1) an original work or 2) an historic art reproduction. If you plan on doing an art reproduction, please include specific details (example: Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci/16th century Italian)

No political or commercial advertisements, statements or logos are allowed except as requested by SAF as part of sponsorship packages.

Works produced are temporary.

A basic set of multicolor pastel chalk will be provided by SAF. Plan ahead! Please plan to bring additional amounts of colors represented in large areas of your image

Financial information –

  • Chalk artists are not allowed to sell items or artwork. However, self-promotion with a portfolio of work is acceptable and recommended during the event
  • Prizes (TBA) will be awarded
  • Tip jars will be provided for each image and may be used at the artist’s discretion
  • There is an application fee - $20 for individual artists, $30 for groups

CHALK ARTIST CHECK-IN is Saturday Jan. 21s from 8:30am-10am. You will be assigned your drawing space and receive your pastels at that time. Upon application acceptance, more specific information will be provided by email.

There will be a chalk art area for youth under high school age (14 and under). There is no application necessary for students of that age. High school students who wish to apply to be part of the adult Chalk Art Show must fill out the entire application as well as the Student Artist section.

Please note that the SAF committee primarily communicates by email. You will receive all information concerning the show via email.

Team efforts are welcomed. However, there are some restrictions based on image size spaces available. If you plan to work with a team, please complete the appropriate part of the application. It is only necessary to provide ONE APPLICATION per team. If you have questions, contact us at info@suncoastartsfest.com.
